Properties and strengths of steel structures

Toughness, Ductility, Resistance, Glossiness, Lightness

Capable of adapting to challenging tasks, maintaining its beauty, architecturally versatile and technically efficient.

What are the strenghts of a stainless steel tensostructure?

Lightweight stainless steel structures in S235 or S275, made with profile and tubulars, hot dip galvanized.

  • Hardenability
  • Hardness
  • Toughness
  • Ductility

Stainless steel is resistant to:

  • Corrosion
  • Traction
  • Usury
  • Heat

Through the calculation of weathering, Plastex can calculate the pre-tensioning of the fabric, in consideration of wind and snow loads. Analyzing the stresses is fundamental to ensure safety.

What’s the difference between a Stainless steel structure and a Geodesic structure?

Geodesic domes are hemispherical tensioned tensile structures, composed of a series of beams resting on a spherical base.

The geodesics that compose it (ie for a sphere the great circle arcs) intersecting each other, form triangles.

The modular structure thus created generates a beehive effect which, at a functional level, confers resistance to the dome, distributing local stress evenly over the entire structure.

Geodesic domes are the only man-made structure that becomes proportionately more resistant as its size increases.

Assembly does not require heavy vehicles as it is modular from bottom to top.

Though the term “Tensile structures” is used for both tensioned and tent structures, technically tensioned tensile structures and tent tensile structures are not the same thing.

Although grammatically only one word makes them distinguishable, they are two architectural projects at the antipodes, made with different techniques and therefore with different histories and uses.

Tensioned tensile structures are structures kept in position (in static equilibrium) thanks to tension.

Tent tensile structures, on the other hand, the complicity between the parts – the textile and the load-bearing parts – is not essential to the stability of the structure, the roof has no structural function and the pvc part rests on the pillars only as a cover.

The tensioned tensile structures are therefore isostatic and the tent tensile structures instead hyperstatic.
